Hey editors, it's been a minute. Welcome back to Monthly Montage, your behind-the-scenes look at the Sequence Beta, now publicly available.
We’ve been heads-down & radio-silent since the last issue, refactoring and enhancing Sequence for working pros to collaborate on more complex projects and prepare for the exciting road ahead — all while uniting pre-to-post production tooling into a single slick suite.
We’ve built more than we thought we could in the last year, but here’s just a small sample of the last few weeks to kick things off.
Color gets serious

Late August brought the biggest update to color workflows Sequence has had so far:
Custom RGB Curves: draw bezier curve plots to control the master tone or individual RGB color channels
Hue/Saturation Curves: manipulate properties like saturation against a specific hue value sampled from the image
Color/Chroma Warper: make broad hue and saturation moves, or push specific colors and exposure ranges into new areas
3x3 Primary Color Matrix: targeted incremental point adjustments for different color channels and tonal ranges
One improved eyedropper tool is shared between different modules & features, so you can now sample directly from the preview image to target a value.
Under the hood, we went back through the color math on and corrected subtle inaccuracies—your grades will look better than ever.
Scopes got some love too. There are new CIE scopes, plus updates to the existing Parade and Vectorscopes to render more clearly. (Learn more about video scopes in Sequence →)
Position tool
Sometimes you just need a clip right there, without fighting the reflow timeline behavior. The new Position Tool (shift + p) lets you relocate clips freely along the timeline and between tracks, with a live preview while you drag. When you drop the clip, it overwrites anything in its way and leaves a placeholder in its original location.
Think of it as an escape hatch from the reflow timeline as needed. Step out for a moment to get some specific timing right, and then go back to focusing on the relationships of the clips around it.

Billing and trials
We rebuilt billing in anticipation of wider public release so you can better track the amount of storage, compute, and usage your workspace utilizes. We want to encourage collaboration between member, so billing is now based on usage of storage, compute and tokens.
Prepaid credits: one ledger shows your balance, spend limits, top-ups, and auto-reload
Usage meter: shows how much of your included usage is left. Credits only kick in once normal usage has run out
Free trials: new workspaces start on a trial, with a status card in the sidebar showing trial status
Cleaner settings: billing settings and the plan comparison got a redesign to more clearly explain the options available

Screenings
Share a public link to a Sequence screening in Slack, iMessage, or X and now it shows the title and poster frame instead of a bare URL.

That’s a wrap on the Long Beach Film Festival, presented by Sequence
Sequence signed on at the end of August to be the presenting sponsor of the first inaugural Long Beach Film Festival. If you found us from there, welcome aboard! We did our first public demos and had a chance to support a first-year community arts program right here in our own city, and that meant a lot :)
We’ll be back next year bigger and better. And hey, maybe you have a film you’d like to cut & submit? Keep up to date with next year’s deadlines over at FilmFreeway.
And stay tuned on the Sequence Blog for an upcoming deep dive behind the scenes on being able to be a part of this festival coming together and how we built a custom exhibition setup for a dual collaborative sequence demo experience.
Catch us at Film Independent Forum, Sep 25th-26th in LA
We’ll be at the Film Independent Forum hosted by the Director’s Guild of America this Friday and Saturday. Find us at the Friday mixer or Industry Connect and say hi! We’d love to show you what we’ve been working on (and give you some cool swag)
Coming soon… A (multi-camera) conversation about building timeline tools
We’ve been working on a new video for you showing off our multi-cam editing capabilities! Subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to know, otherwise, you’ll hear about it in the next newsletter.
Cutting here — check the gate. Talk soon, and see you in the timeline :)
Cheers,
~ The Cast & Crew of Sequence ~
